The Pine Grove P.S. Student Council and Me
to We Committee decided to use the International Day of Pink as a
platform to make a difference in the lives of all our students.
April 11th - April 15th is Social Justice Week at Pine Grove P.S. Last year's
focus for Social Justice Week was, "What is Social Justice? (How can we be
fair?)." This year's focus is about acceptance. We want to inspire our
students by demonstrating that each one of us can make a
difference in the life of our school community when we
work intentionally at ensuring that everyone feels
accepted. We want to show others that even small acts of kindness and
individual demonstrations of tolerance have a huge impact. We have invited our
students to attend an assembly where all classes will be involved
in building our "Wall of Acceptance." Each class will come
forward and post on the "wall" a word that
exemplifies our message of tolerance. Guest speakers will be addressing the
students and the Student Council and Me to We Committee are preparing workshops
for all the classes in the school. Currently, Student Council and the
Me to We Committee are also interviewing our
students; asking them to share an example of the
things they do to ensure that everyone feels accepted. Please help your
child celebrate Social Justice Week by having them participate in the following
Social Justice themed Spirit Days:
Monday,
April 11th - Wear a white shirt - spread the same message of acceptance,
tolerance and kindness.
Tuesday,
April 12th - Wear a number - because we all count.
Wednesday,
April 13th - International Day of Pink - celebrate diversity and raise awareness
to stop bullying in all its forms.
Thursday,
April 14th - Wear pyjamas - put bullying to bed.
Friday,
April 15th - Wear boots - to stomp out bullying.
Remember
that positive actions make a difference, and each one of us can make positive
change to end bullying.
